King opens Europe's most sustainable laundry
King Willem-Alexander ceremoniously opened Nedlin's new sustainable laundry on Thursday, September 21st. The family-owned company, based in South Limburg, provides laundry services to clients in the healthcare, hospitality, and industrial sectors across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. The company, alongside over four hundred guests, celebrated 70 years of entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability. Discussions included recent developments in the healthcare sector with representatives from the Netherlands and Belgium. Following the opening ceremony, the King and guests were personally guided through the new laundry facilities by Nedlin's staff.
The new laundry is located in Elsloo, has a floor area of 19,000 square meters, is the most sustainable in Europe, and is unique in terms of innovation. Stef de Win (director/owner of Nedlin) said, "A laundry like this has never been built before. We have examined and reinvented every part of the washing process. This has required a lot from everyone involved. This royal opening feels like the crowning achievement."

Luuk de Win, director/owner of Nedlin, states, "For 70 years, we've essentially been reinventing ourselves over and over again. Every day, we strive to improve in what we do. Laundry is a labor-intensive process that requires a lot of water and energy. Continuously improving and optimizing this process is a never-ending task."
Andrea Meuwissen, commercial director of Nedlin Healthcare, adds, "We see increasing pressure on healthcare. Aging populations, rising healthcare costs, CO2 reduction, and staff shortages. It is therefore crucial that our processes run smoothly. By making our processes as efficient as possible, we contribute to keeping healthcare affordable in the long term."

Maximum environmental gain
Stef: "A laundry like ours is primarily a very large and smart logistical operation. Much of it is automated, which has transformed the work environment: cleaner, brighter, and safer, yet also more challenging. We've invested in our own water purification system, allowing us to fully recycle all process water. Achieving a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions, smart energy management contributes to maximizing environmental benefits. With the implementation of a digital warehouse, the iCollector, we can better respond to demand and ensure higher delivery reliability." The new laundry facility is BREEAM outstanding certified. Recently, Nedlin also received B Corp certification for its sustainable performance.
