Sustainable choices
Nedlin makes sustainable choices. At Nedlin, we believe that offering sustainable service is the only way to remain future-proof. Every day, we are working on making our processes and logistics more sustainable, and optimising our machines. We limit the use of energy, water and laundry detergents as much as possible. Aside from our processes, logistics and machines, our products also play an important part in making our services more sustainable. So we also make sure to always work with the most sustainable linen.
The next step
Since December 2018, we have been supplying towels of various sizes made of 100% organic GOTS. After a successful introduction, we received enthusiastic responses from all of our clients. In 2019, we took the next step towards a more responsible range. The new package has been selected with care and tested extensively. Since November 2019, the new linen package has been the default, and you will receive our latest sustainable products.
Certified linen
Our new sustainable linen package consists of products with a OBCS, GRS or GOTS certificate.
What do these certifications in our linen package mean?
OBCS: Organic Blended Content Standard. Products with this certificate consist of at least 50% organic cotton.
GRS: Global Recycled Standard. GRS certification means that products contain 80% pre-recycled cotton and 20% polyester. The cotton is made of the cutting waste of textiles. In the past this waste was burned, and now it is 100% recycled.
GOTS: Global Organic Textile Standard. GOTS is the sustainability standard for the full production chain of sustainably produced textiles. The products contain at least 70% organic cotton. At Nedlin, we choose 100% organic cotton.
The sustainable linen package
95% of the default package offered by Nedlin is being replaced by a sustainable alternative. The overview above shows which products will get a more sustainable version, and the matching certificate.
Phased implementation
The current linen package is not being replaced all at once. We are replacing the old linen with the new linen in phases. Only when a product is truly worn out, it will be taken out of circulation and replaced with a sustainable version. We do not believe that it is sustainable to throw away products when the quality is still good. This means that our customers will temporarily receive the products that are already in circulation and some of the new sustainable products. Our ambition is for at least 50% of the package to be sustainable by 2025. Step by step, we are working towards a more sustainable world, together with and for our clients.
Impact on the environment
The CO2 emission of the new package is 10% lower. This reduction of the CO2 emission is the result of these characteristics of sustainable linen and the matching production process:
- Low consumption of energy and water
- Low consumption of chemicals
- Longer life cycle
- Minimises textile waste
- Cutting waste is no longer burned
- Minimises the use of substances that are bad for the environment and health, such as pesticides and chemical fertiliser
Quality without additional costs
At Nedlin, sustainable service is not more expensive. The sustainable linen package is our default, because we care about sustainability. Our clients do not have to pay extra.
We work with market-based prices, and never compromise quality. All of our sustainable products are of premium quality, and they last at least as long as our traditional linen.
