In Nedlin Healthcare’s new laundry, we prove that we can wash even cleaner, even more efficient and even smarter. Aided by automation, robotisation and artificial intelligence, our employees ensure the best results every day. And the work in the laundry? It has become more pleasant, cleaner and more comfortable.
CO2 reduction
We use the most advanced energy technologies in processes and installations. As a result, our CO2 emissions are guaranteed to be 45% lower compared to 2019. We have precise data on that, as more than 175 energy and water meters track consumption in the laundry.
Use of residual heat
The residual heat from the purified wash water and from mangles, dryers and finishers is not lost, but cleverly reused. By purifying the water in-house and using heat exchangers that then reheat the wash water, we save more than 40% on our gas consumption.
Advanced X-ray scanners
Objects left behind in dirty clothes can contaminate an entire batch. In 2015, we became the first laundry in the Netherlands to deploy an X-ray scanner to identify items. In the new laundry, scanning and sorting of clothes happens even faster, even more sophisticated and fully automatically.
Smart camera's
The new laundry uses camera techniques to identify cracks and stains. This allows us to assure customers of even better quality.
Folding robots
Robots fold the towels in the new laundry into a neat rectangle. Not an easy task, as grabbing a towel by two points and laying it down properly is more complicated than it seems. In 2012, due to numerous teething problems, we said goodbye to our towel folders after two years. This time, the innovation did succeed.
Pure water
Through its own water treatment system, all wastewater from Nedlin Healthcare and from the adjacent Nedlin Hospitality laundry is 100% re-used. We also collect rainwater. We filter the water with bacteria and state-of-the-art filtration techniques, which also remove all microplastics. Per kilogram of laundry, we therefore use exactly 0 litres of fresh tap water.
Properly chipped
Thanks to RFID chips in clothes and Medidecks, we know exactly what comes into the laundry and what goes out. Wearer, laundry process, issuance: all the information needed is on the chip. Some of the linen is also chipped. With this, we are continuing on a path we started back in the 1980s, with the emergence of the PC and the barcode.
Dynamic storage system
By using the latest techniques, we can ensure quality and delivery reliability even better. One of the showpieces in the new laundry is the i-Collector, our dynamic storage system. In it, stock is managed at item level. When an order comes in, the correct item is picked from the racks fully automatically. According to FIFO principles, the item that was stored first will be the first one to be issued again.
