B Corp certification for Nedlin crowns three generations of cleaner laundry practices
As of this month, Nedlin, an industrial laundry with locations in Elsloo and Hoensbroek, has earned the designation of 'certified B Corporation' or B Corp. The certification is a result of three generations of investing in a healthy family business that strives to improve every day for customers, employees, and the environment.
"In 2018, we launched a sustainability program," says Luuk de Win, who co-owns and directs the laundry business with his brother Stef. "The ambitions we articulated back then, we have managed to achieve." Over the past years, Nedlin has built the most sustainable laundry in Europe. This is despite the fact that their existing facilities in Hoensbroek and Elsloo already outperform industry norms in terms of energy, water, and environmental performance.
B Corp
Now, these investments have been rewarded with B Corp certification, the most esteemed international assessment for corporate social responsibility. B Corp is the only certification that evaluates the entire organization on sustainability, rather than just specific products or services. To achieve B Corp status, companies undergo a rigorous evaluation across governance, employees, community, environment, and customers.
Nedlin stands out particularly for its transparent structure with a diverse team composition, fair compensation practices, and a balanced gender ratio. "In the assessment, we score very well in transparency and environmental impact," explains Stef de Win. "The audit was based on 2021 data, so the new laundry facility will further improve our performance. We already see this reflected in the reduction of our CO2 emissions."
The certification is a great incentive to do even better tomorrow.
Every day better
With the certification, Nedlin joins esteemed company. Globally, there are over 9,000 B Corps across more than 80 countries and 150 industries. Think of companies like Tony Chocolonely, Auping, Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia, Innocent Drinks, and Triodos Bank. These are all sustainable businesses demonstrating that profitability can coexist with social and environmental goals. Thanks to the international B Corp network, these companies inspire and support each other in their missions.
Stef: "The certification confirms that we are on the right path. But we are far from finished. We see many opportunities in saving energy and water, which also translates into savings for our customers. And we want to involve our employees even more in our societal activities." Holding the B Corp label also entails responsibility. Luuk: "We show leadership and set a good example, but we must continue to perform better ourselves. The certification is a great incentive to do even better tomorrow."
